Program: OL238 Certificate for 6 hours of behind-the-wheel training
California law states that every teenager must complete a minimum of 56 hours of behind-the-wheel training before he/she could sign up for the driving test at the DMV. Of the 56 hours, 6 hours must be completed with a licensed instructor and 50 hours with an adult who is over 25 years old and has a valid California driver's license (40 hours during the day and 10 hours at night).

The 6 hours of behind-the-wheel training provided by the World Driving School is scheduled over three lessons (two hours per lesson). After the student completes the first lesson, he/she will be able to start the 50 hours of road practice. A student who only completes the six hours of behind-the-wheel training without an additional 50 hours of supervised practice is not qualify to take the DMV road test.

The fee for the 50 hours of supervised training with the World Driving School is the same as the 6 hours of behind-the-wheel training, and the student must pay the fee in full after each lesson.

Before signing up for the 6 hours of behind-the-wheel training, a student must:

  • pass the written test for driver education, AND
  • receive the provisional permit issued by the DMV

6 hours of behind-the-wheel training covers:

Six hours of behind-the-wheel training only provides student with minimal hands-on practice and basic understanding for road driving. A student will get road practice with traffic lights and street signs. Student will also be familiarized with the use of the horn, headlights and emergency signals, as well as "right-of-way" laws and the use of lanes. Furthermore, the student will learn to make left/right turns, U-turns, 3-point turns and back up; use signal lights and/or hand-and-arm signals; change lanes; park uphill, downhill, and parallel park; judge distance between vehicles (“three-second rule”); distinguish yield from a full stop; enter, merge, and exit freeways etc.

Program 1: Revoked/suspended license
The World Driving School can provide a letter to the DMV for a revoked/suspended license driver who wants to schedule a driving test. The evaluation letter is based on the driver's performance during training. If the driver passes, the instructor will provide the letter and take the student to the road test. A fee will apply to the letter process.

Program 2: Rent a car for road test
The World Driving School offers car-rental for the DMV road test. However, the driver must take one 2-hour class before the test date. If the driver's driving skill does not meet the requirement, the instructor has the right to refuse rental service.

On the exam day, there will be a minimum of two hours of lesson fee regardless of whether or not the instructor passes the driver for road test. If the exam requires longer than two hours, the addition time will be charged by an hourly rate.

Q: What kind of information do I need to provide to the instructor while I sign up for an appointment?
A: The student must provide accurate name, phone number and address when scheduling for an appointment. This information will be used to issue completion certificate in the future.

Q: Can the instructor pick me up after school?
A: The instructor must pick up the student from home for the first lesson. After the first training class, the student may request the instructor to pick him/her up from school.

Q: Can I change instructors during the six hours of behind-the-wheel training?
A: Yes. A student who wants to change instructors must obtain a written documentation from the previous instructor indicating how many hours he/she has already completed.

Q: Can I cancel the appointment at anytime?
A: Yes. But there will be one-hour cancellation fee for students who do not cancel 48 hours in advance.

Q: During the training, who is responsible for car damages in the case of an accident?
A: The World Driving School provides full insurance coverage for every student as long as fees are paid in full after each class.

A: The World Driving School currently does not offer Driver Education Package, but will provide this program in the near future. Please check back later.
